Nizoral starts its action by impairing synthesis of ergosterol (which is vital component of fungal cell membranes) thereby increasing fungal cellular permeability resulting in cell death. Nizoral is also found to inhibit synthesis of thromboxane and sterols such as aldosterone, cortisol, and testosterone.
