Atenolol Action Mechanism
Atenolol executes its action by competing with sympatho-mimetic neurotransmitters to bind with beta (1)-adrenergic receptor present in heart and vascular smooth muscles and thereby inhibits sympathetic stimulation. As a result, Atenolol reverses the effects of stress hormones resulting in reduction of resting heart rate, cardiac output, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and reflex orthostatic hypotension.
Atenolol Dosage
Consult your medical professional before taking Atenolol, as its dosage depends upon your age, medical condition, other medications you might be using or any clinical history, if present. The usual recommended Atenolol dosage for treatment of angina or its symptoms in adults is 50 mg per day. The maximum recommended dosage of Atenolol should not exceed 200 mg per day and is usually prescribed to be taken at same time every day.
