Famvir Action Mechanism
Famvir acts by inhibiting both types of herpes simplex virus and varicella zoster virus by forming penciclovir triphosphate that competitively inhibits HSV-2 DNA polymerase. As a result, Famvir selectively inhibits herpes viral DNA synthesis and thereby its replication.
Famvir Dosage
Usual recommended dosage of Famvir in adults is 1500 mg for recurrent herpes labialis and is 1000 mg twice daily for 1 day for recurrent episodes of genital herpes and is 500 mg every 8 hours for 7 days for herpes zoster.
Famvir Precaution
Avoid Famvir if you are allergic to acyclovir or drink alcohol.
Do not take Famvir if you suffer from any kidney problems, galactose intolerance or severe lactase deficiency.
Famvir Side Effects
Common side effects of Famvir include headache and tired feeling, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, dizziness, confusion, mild itching or skin rash or stomach pain.
Serious side effects of Famvir that require urgent medical assistance include difficulty in breathing and severe allergic manifestations such as swelling of your throat, lips face or tongue and hives.
