Amlodipine executes its action through inhibiting transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac muscle and vascular smooth muscles. Amlodipine thus reduces blood pressure, through acting as peripheral arterial vasodilator and causing reduction in peripheral vascular resistance.
