Dostinex Action Mechanism

Dostinex is prolactin inhibitor and acts as a long-acting dopamine receptor agonist having a high affinity for D2 receptors. Thus, Dostinex exerts a direct inhibitory effect on prolactin secretion, thereby decreasing prolactin levels in plasma.

Dostinex Dosage

Consult your health care professional before taking Dostinex as its dosage depends upon your clinical condition and response to treatment. Usual recommended dosage of Dostinex is 0.25 mg twice a week for initial therapy and can be increased to 1 mg per week. Dostinex is generally prescribed with a glass of water and can be taken with or without regard to meals.

Dostinex Precaution

Avoid taking Dostinex if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs as they may cross react and cause serious health complications.

Do not take Dostinex if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or suffer from high or low blood pressure, liver diseases and heart ailments to avoid serious health complications.

Avoid Dostinex if you are allergic to Cabergoline or other medicines and certain foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Dostinex Side Effects

Common and less serious side effects of Dostinex include headache, indigestion, constipation or diarrhea, drowsiness and nervousness, pain during menstruation, stomach or abdominal pain and hair loss.

While serious side effects of Dostinex that require urgent medical assistance include nausea or vomiting, breathing problems, weakness and confusion, tingling or numbness in hands or feet, swelling in ankles and severe allergic reactions such as itching or hives, skin rash and swelling of face, lips, or tongue.
