Zovirax Action Mechanism
A synthetic purine nucleoside analogue, Zovirax acts as an inhibitor against both types of herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Zovirax through a series of phosphorylation reactions forms acyclovir tri phosphate, which stops herpes viral DNA replication.
Zovirax Dosage
Consult your medical doctor before taking Zovirax as its dosage depends upon your clinical condition and any medical history, if present. The usual prescribed dosage of Zovirax for HSV is 800 mg tablet to be taken every 4 hours (5 times a day) for 7 to 10 days and for Chickenpox is 800 mg taken 4 times a day for 5 days.
Zovirax Precaution
Avoid Zovirax if you are allergic to acyclovir or suffer from any renal complications.
Do not take Zovirax if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Zovirax Side Effects
Common side effects of Zovirax include fever, headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach upset.
Serious side effects of Zovirax include chest pain, hallucinations, seizures, unusual bruising or bleeding, dark urine and allergic reactions.
